Enjoy visits to three of Woods Hole’s museums all within a short walk of each other. Visit the WHOI museum for an informative talk on the day and a life of the deep submersible Alvin which was used for the discovery and exploration of the wreck of the Titanic, and step inside a full size model of the inner sphere of Alvin. Then visit the Marine Biological laboratory Marine Resources Center (MBL), for a brief tour of this highly advanced facility where scientists research marine life. And finish off at America’s oldest continuously operating research aquarium; The Woods Hole Science Aquarium, home to sea life and at times to harbor seals that have been rescued. This afternoon, step aboard for a 2-hour scenic cruise out of Falmouth Harbor! Cruise out of the harbor and down around Woods Hole, then along the shores of the Elizabeth Islands. These chains of islands were visited in 1602 by the English navigator Bartholomew Gosnold, who established a short-lived colony on the westernmost island of Cuttyhunk 18 years before the arrival of the Mayflower at Plymouth. Naushon, the largest island, was a British naval base during the War of 1812. Most of these islands are now privately owned by the Forbes Family.
